The senior angler on the Panther Bass fishing team has been awarded a college scholarship. He will compete at the next level for Blue Mountain College, the first Pine Grove angLer to be awarded a college scholarship.

“This kid works. He works at everything he has ever done. I can’t think of anyone more deserving for this scholarship opportunity,” Pine Grove Assistant Principal Chris Shinall said of Brady being awarded the scholarship.

Sawyer and his fishing partner Brice Lindley got a 5th place finish in their tournament appearance eariler this year with a weight of 4.97 pounds. The duo is looking to finish out their year and fishing career strong, with the state tournament and possibly nationals later in the year.

The BMC Bass Fishing team is one of the top teams in the nation. The Topper’s have earned numerous finishes near the top of the national leaderboard since the teams inception in the 2017-2018 season. BMC Coach Shane Cox was in attendance for Sawyer’s signing.

Brady’s hard work over the last four years has helped put the Pine Grove team in the position they are now.

Pine Grove Bass fishing coach Penny Hill credited Sawyer with helping launch the team.

“Every day Brady [Hill, her son] would come home saying “Momma Sawyer wants to know when we are going to get this bass fishing team together,” Hill said.

For all of the accolades, Sawyer and his family are most thankful for the opportunity to stay close to home and pursue the sport he has grown to love.

Coach Hill wanted Brady to know how much of a role model he is to the younger anglers and urged them to follow in his footsteps towards a college scholarship. She also wanted him to remember something as he pursued his dreams.

“When you make the big time one day, I want you to remember me while you are out there on the water.”
