Falkner Falls in Shootout Against Bruce
Falkner, MS – The Falkner Eagles put up a spirited fight Friday night, unleashing a barrage of big plays and piling up 35 points against unbeaten Bruce. Despite the offensive fireworks, the Eagles couldn’t overcome a couple of timely turnovers and fell 46‑35 in the non‑league clash.
Morgan leads the charge
Senior running back Anthony Morgan delivered a performance for the ages. He carved up the Trojans’ defense with 214 rushing yards on just 16 carries, blasting through the line for touchdowns of 64 and 42 yards. Morgan also hit a receiver on a 38‑yard touchdown pass and hauled in a 47‑yard reception, finishing with 299 all‑purpose yards. His vision and burst kept Falkner within striking distance all night.
The aerial attack provided balance. Junior wideout Malakhi Nunley made the most of his touches, turning two receptions into 68 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Jordan Guerrero added a short scoring catch, and he also flew around on defense with seven tackles.
Defensive grit
Falkner’s defense had its hands full with Bruce’s balanced offense but still produced some standout performances. Senior linebacker Colee Stroupe notched a team‑high 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss, while freshman Tyson Alberson chipped in eight tackles. Zephaniel Flynn and Jordan Guerrero each recorded seven or more stops, and junior kicker Abraham Alvarez calmly converted all three of his extra‑point attempts to keep the Eagles close.
Ultimately, Bruce’s passing game proved the difference. The Trojans hit on long passes for three touchdowns and converted five two‑point tries to build an early cushion. Falkner fought back to within a possession late in the fourth quarter before Bruce’s defense sealed the outcome with an interception.
Looking ahead
The Eagles dropped to 0‑3 but showed plenty of fight and offensive potential. They’ll return home Friday, Sept. 19 to host winless Thrasher in another non‑league matchup. Falkner fans will hope Anthony Morgan and company can build on their explosive outing and turn big plays into their first win of the season.
