Falkner makes plays late against Ashland to secure first win of season
Falkner came in to Friday night’s showdown against Ashland searching for their first win of the season.
Picking up your first win of the year against a district rival is the best type of win.
The Eagles (1-4, 1-0) took out the visiting Blue Devils 42-26 to secure head coach Ty Priest’s first career victory.
In a back and forth contest, the Eagles got a pair of plays late to clinch the win.
Falkner led 20-14 at halftime but found themselves trailing 26-20 heading to the fourth quarter. Starting quarterback Benton Hopkins was knocked out of the game with a lower body injury.
Enter senior receiver turned QB Cody Johnson.
Johnson completed a 26 yard touchdown to Zay Hudson and ran in for a 33 yard scramble to give the Eagles the lead. Safety Austin Sullivan got a pick six with 18 seconds remaining and Ryan Caviness got a two point conversion to ice the victory for the Eagles.
