Falkner will kick off the 2018 football season with a matchup against the 2A East Union Urchins. Last years contest ended in a 50-28 victory for Falkner, but both teams experienced a lot of transformation since then. We will go over the keys for Falkner on Offense and Defense plus final thoughts and a prediction.
Keys on offense
The name of the game this year for Falkner will be getting the ball into the hands of their playmakers. Falkner has a first year signal caller on offense that is more than capable of doing so in senior Lane Elliott. Elliott has a host of options at his disposal, so let’s break down who might shine in this game.
Arguably the most dangerous weapon for the Eagles is the electric sophmore TJ Colom. Colom will line up primarily in the slot where he is one of the areas most dangerous weapons in space.
Complimenting Colom is wideout Chauncey Jackson. Jackson is a deep threat with great ball hawking skills. He has snatched the ball away from defenders on numerous occasions.
Elliott also has the luxury of a relatively experienced offensive line and a solid running game led by senior Elijah Moore.
The offense is unquestionably the strongest unit for the Eagles. Against the Urchins, the Eagles will try to get the ball on the perimeter and win one on one in space.
The Eagles defensive unit has several hard nosed, gritty players that will control the middle of the field. This will be crucial against East Union in containing their top player, running back Joel Wilkinson.
The Eagles will rely on the defensive presence and leadership of linebackers Christian Kennedy and Ryan Caviness to contain the Urchins running attack.
The defensive line will play fast and try and create havoc against an East Union O-line that doesn’t have a single senior. Look for sophomores Cody Johnson and Zion Grizzard to use their quickness to get into the Urchin backfield.
Falkner has too much firepower for the Urchins. They could score a lot of points against an inexperienced Urchin defense.
