Lady Tigers one win away from laying claim to state title
This group of Lady Tigers have been here before, close enough to a gold ball they could taste it.
Twice before, they’ve felt the sting of losing the final game of the season. Twice they have seen victory slip through their grasp.
Thursday is a shot at redemption. This senior class is looking to etch their names in the record book, and go wire to wire as the state champion after being labelled runner up a season ago.
Ripley, returning the core of last years team, was the preseason #1 girls 4A team. They have handled business throughout the regular season, running up a 31-2 record.
Monday, they got a hard fought win over a scrappy team from Raymond to punch their ticket for their third time in four years.
Waiting for them is a dangerous squad from Moss Point, who dispatched Pontotoc on Monday. The Lady Tigers from the Coast are led in scoring by Robyn Lee, a division-1 basketball signee to Louisiana Tech.
The Lady Tigers have been waiting a full year for this moment. They get it at 5 pm from the Pavilion in Oxford on Thursday.
Here’s to hoping the third time is a charm.
