Ripley picks up playoff victory behind timely hitting, clutch pitching
The Ripley Tigers got hits at just the right time, a solid pitching effort and made enough plays to claim a 5-4 victory over Mooreville in the opening round of the state playoffs on Saturday.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead thanks to a Ben Fryar double and a Cade Davis groundout RBI, but found themselves trailing 4-1 headed into the 4th.
Lucas Cartwright got a big double to start the inning and Fryar came through with a clutch single to tie the game at 4.
Micah Johnston came in to relieve Davis after the 4th and was effective over three innings of work, picking up the victory after a one run 6th for Ripley sealed the game.
The action moves to Mooreville for game 2 on Monday.
