Ripley races to first half lead and holds on for big road win over Kossuth
For the second week in a row, Ripley found themselves with a halftime lead against a quality opponent.
The Tigers were able to seal the deal with a victory this go around as they picked up a hard fought 23-13 win over Kossuth.
Ripley jumped on the Aggies early as they were firing on all cylinders both offensively and defensively, forcing a pair of first quarter touchdowns that led to a pair of Jamal Brooks rushing touchdowns.
The Tigers got a Tristan Vandiver touchdown pass to Sentavius Hunt from 26 yards to give Ripley a 21-0 lead halfway through the second quarter.
And that is when things got wonky.
In the final 4 minutes, Kossuth got a pair of Kota Wilhite touchdowns, recovered and onside kick and picked off their second pass of the first half to cut the halftime deficit to 21-13.
The Tigers and Aggies then found themselves in a defensive struggle in the second half. Fortunately for the Tigers, that is just their kind of game.
Ripley got a pair of sacks and an interception from Jamal Brooks and a Shaundell Carter sack for a safety for the only points of the second half as Ripley closed out the victory for the second year in a row at Kossuth.
