Columbia, Ky. — Blue Mountain Christian Volleyball lost two matches Saturday at Biggers Sports Center, falling to Lindsey Wilson and No. 10 Cumberlands. The Volley Toppers (4-6) gained momentum in the third set against Lindsey Wilson but couldn’t secure the win overall. They later improved offensively against Cumberlands, ranked 10th nationally.
The team opened the day against Lindsey Wilson, losing 25-18, 25-8, 13-25, 25-18. After dropping the first two sets, Blue Mountain Christian responded strongly in the third, hitting .222 with 10 kills and holding Lindsey Wilson to a .067 hitting percentage. The Toppers won that set 25-13 but fell in the fourth, 25-18, to close the match.
Marissa Gerleman led the team with eight kills, followed by Salice Speed with seven and Valeria Velez with five. The team recorded 12 aces, led by Williams, Speed, and Sydney Tague with three each. Williams and Velez combined for 16 digs, and Olivia Lewis contributed five blocks at the net. Assist leaders were Domino with 14 and Tague with 12.
Later, Blue Mountain Christian faced No. 10 Cumberlands, losing 25-16, 25-20, 25-19. The team showed offensive improvement and held advantages in service aces and blocks. They finished with four aces to Cumberlands’ two and seven blocks to four. Speed led with nine kills and 10 digs, while Gerleman added six kills. Lewis was efficient with five kills on nine attempts and a .444 hitting percentage. Hopper contributed four kills and five blocks, and Williams led defensively with 11 digs. Tague dished out 11 assists, with Domino adding nine.
Blue Mountain Christian will host Freed-Hardeman in their first home match Tuesday.
