Blue Mountain Christian and Wesleyan College played to a 1-1 draw Saturday at The Summit on Senior Day, in an SSAC women’s soccer match. Wesleyan scored first in the fourth minute when Caleigh Patton found the net from about 35 yards out, giving the Wolves an early lead.
The Toppers responded with sustained pressure in the first half. Blue Mountain Christian outshot Wesleyan 17-5 during the opening 45 minutes and had six shots on goal but trailed 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Blue Mountain Christian continued to press for the equalizer. Daniela Nieto scored in the 77th minute, tying the game at 1-1. The goal was her seventh shot of the day, as she led the team in attempts.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing minutes, but neither side found the net again. Blue Mountain Christian finished with a 28-16 shot advantage overall and a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Nayelli Aguayo recorded six shots with two on target, while Taylor Duggar had two shots on goal.
Sophia Young started in goal for Blue Mountain Christian, making one save before being replaced by Kiana Gordon, who played the remaining 86 minutes and 53 seconds and had five saves. Both teams earned six corner kicks in the match.
Blue Mountain Christian will face UT-Southern next Saturday in Pulaski, Tennessee.
