Blue Mountain Christian University women’s soccer team earned its second Southern States Athletic Conference win of the season Thursday, defeating Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 3-0 at The Summit.
The Toppers dominated offensively, outshooting ABAC 21-6 and putting 11 shots on goal. They scored first in the 18th minute when Daniela Nieto found the top-right corner of the net off an assist from Duda Koespel.
Blue Mountain maintained control into halftime, leading 1-0 after outshooting ABAC 12-3 in the first half. The Toppers added to their lead in the 76th minute when Nieto played a through ball to Nayelli Aguayo, who scored to make it 2-0.
Aguayo contributed again in the 80th minute, setting up Alba Hernandez, whose shot hit the crossbar and went in, sealing a 3-0 victory. Nieto led the attack with seven shots, including five on goal, and finished with a goal and an assist. Aguayo registered six shots with three on target, also tallying a goal and an assist.
Defensively, Blue Mountain limited ABAC to just one shot on goal over 90 minutes. Kiana Gordon made the save to record her first clean sheet of the season. The Toppers held a 11-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The win improves Blue Mountain’s conference record to 2-1. The team will host Wesleyan College at The Summit on Saturday for the SSAC Women’s Soccer Match of the Week.
