Zyler Clifton scored a trio of rushing touchdowns in the first quarter to give Walnut a 24-0 lead before Ashland ripped off a 15 minute drive between the first and second quarter capped off by a Anthony Morgan 17 yard touchdown run to cut the Walnut lead to a pair of scores. Walnut then scored three touchdowns in a span of a little over two minutes to put the game away: a Kamarrian Gray rushing score with a Jack Leak 2 point conversion, Clifton’s 4th rushing score and an absolute dime of a throw from Drew Jackson to Adrian Palmer with just 6 seconds left in the half for a 46-8 halftime lead, setting the running clock for the entire second half.
The Wildcats would add another score on the ground from Gray to start the second half and then get a nice bootleg run from backup quarterback Westin Mills to round out the scoring.
Walnut now turns their attention to the Joe Bowl on Thursday night.
Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Falkner Thursday.
