Falkner kicks off 2023 season with new offense, return of old coach

22 years after Kevin Walton got his first coaching job at Falkner, he was back on the sidelines for the Eagles on Friday night. He brought his up-tempo offense and lots of excitement to the Eagle program and came away with a 41-0 win over Potts Camp, their first victory in that series since 2018.

Falkner jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and held the Potts Camp offense in check, blanking them for the first time in series history.

Eagle standout Chris Nunley was a spark plug for the offense, leading with 231 all purpose yards and three scores, a 20 yard rushing score on his only carry to go with 5 receptions for 132 yards and a pair of scores

Joseph ‘Jojo’ Swinford had an 80 yard touchdown scamper and 98 rushing yards. Kane Floyd added 43 yards rushing and a score.

Eagle quarterback Gavin Wooley finished with 143 yards through the air and a pair of scores.

The Eagles had four interceptions on the night, with Nunley, Myles Mitchell, Brayden Moore and Gerardo Ruedas picking off passes. Logan Wooley rounded out the Falkner scoring with a defensive touchdown.

All told, the Eagled blocked a pair of Potts Camp punts and forced 6 turnovers on the night.

After getting the win, the Eagles move on to face Walnut in the Joe Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Thursday.
