The Pine Grove gymnasium has seen several epic battles between the Lady Panthers and the Ingomar Lady Falcons.
Those contests have traditionally been basketball games for area supremacy and bragging rights.
On Thursday, it was the same hardwood but a different sport, as the Lady Panthers raced to a 2-0 game lead and held on to win the match in the 5th frame.
The Lady Panthers and Lady Falcons are among the most storied girls basketball programs in Mississippi, and both put volleyball teams on the court that mimicked the same type of player that suits up during basketball season: gritty, competitive, overlooked athletes making plays that lead to victory.
Here’s to hoping the volleyball rivalry continues to grow. I wouldn’t bet against it.
