Ripley soccer advances in state playoffs with 2-1 OT win
Ripley soccer coach Nathan Wooley was explaining the rules of high school soccer overtime, how there is an overtime period followed by two ‘Golden Goal’ periods if the game is still tied. How after that, if still tied, the game will go to penalty kicks.
He was confident none of that was necessary.
“We’re about to go out and win it now,” Wooley said.
Senior CAM Ruben Perez proved him right.
Perez got his second goal in the second minute of the second OT period to secure Ripley a spot in the second round of the state playoffs with a 2-1 victory over NE Jones.
Euphoria ensued from the team and fans when the final whistle blew.
Ripley advances to play arch rival New Albany on Saturday with a trip to the North State finals on the line.
