Falkner boys use third quarter surge to defeat Pine Grove at County Tournament
Pine Grove jumped out early on Falkner in Thursday’s Tippah County Tournament game, rushing to an 11-8 first quarter lead behind the three point shooting of Brice Lindley and Scott Smithey.
Halftime saw Falkner rush back to regain the lead 25-22 thanks to 9 2nd quarter points from sophmore Cam Smith. The makings of an epic Tippah County Tournament game were in place.
The Eagles in the third quarter had other plans.
Falkner went on a 13-0 run in the 3rd on their way to outscoring the Panthers 18-6, creating separation and taking a 43-28 lead into the fourth that the Eagles would not relinquish en route to a 53-47 victory.
Falkner had four players in double digits: Cody Johnson with 15, Cam Smith with 13, Daylon Crum with 11 and Chauncey Jackson with 10.
Pine Grove was led in scoring by Carson Rowland with 8 and Scott Smithey with 7.
The Eagles play Ripley for the County Championship Saturday at 7.
