2020 has been year for history books for Tippah county basketball
Tippah County has a long history of basketball success, including state titles and Grand Slam Championships. But, as far as widespread success, 2020 might go down as the best year yet.
Take the fact, for example, that as far as we can tell this is the first ever year that five different teams have made it to the “state” portion of the playoffs with Walnut girls and both squads from Pine Grove and Ripley advancing to the third round.
There have been district titles. Teams stepping up. Big road wins and defending home court.
Teams on a mission with unfinished business. Teams with a date with destiny. Teams that have grown as the season has went on.
It has been a banner season so far. There is still work to do.
Check out the schedule for Tippah teams moving forward below.
Walnut girls went on the road and defeated Pelahatchie in the second round and they advance to take on Calhoun City in the third round at MVSU. They play Thursday at 5:30 pm.
Ripley boys went to Choctaw Central and picked up a win in hostile territory. They take on Pontotoc at MVSU at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
Ripley girls got a big victory over last years state champion, Louisville. The Lady Tigers take on NE Lauderdale at MVSU at 4 pm on Friday.
Pine Grove boys took out Houlka at home on Saturday. They travel to ICC to take on Baldwyn at 7 pm on Thursday.
Pine Grove girls got a victory in their final home game over TCPS. They will play Hickory flat at 4 pm next Thursday at ICC.
