Ripley Powerlifting wins 4A Division 2 meet, sends nine to regionals
RIPLEY–Ripley Powerlifting won the Class 4A Division 2 meet on Saturday, inside the Ripley Middle School Gym, as nine Ripley athletes finished in the top two spots of their specific weight classes. Those nine medalists will move on to the Class 4A Regional meet set for Friday, Feb. 10 at Itawamba High School.
Ripley claimed its second consecutive Division 2 trophy by totaling 58 points . New Albany was second with 42 points, while North Pontotoc placed third with 36 points. Pontotoc, Senatobia and South Pontotoc rounded out the six-team meet.
Powerlifting athletes compete by performing a squat, bench press, and deadlift in front of judges. The goal is to reach the highest amount of weight an athlete can lift in one repetition. The amounts are added together for a total.

–Brandon Mejia, 5th place, 242-pound class. Total weight: 1115 lbs.
–Anthony Bell, 2nd place, 275-pound class. Total weight: 1280 lbs.
–Brayden Allen, 1st place, 308-pound class. Total weight: 1230 lbs.
–David Jovel, 2nd place, 308-pound class. Total weight: 1190 lbs.
–Charles Christmas, Jr., 1st place, Super Heavyweight (308+). Total weight: 1240 lbs.
