Walnut gets road win over Ingomar as they enter home stretch with playoffs in sight

The Lady Wildcats picked up a road win in non-conference action over Ingomar on Thursday in one of their final tune-ups before the final district games of the year.

The goal of a return trip to the playoffs and a 2nd straight district title is still in reach.

Walnut defeated the Lady Falcons in sweeping fashion 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 to move to 8-6 on the season.

The Lady Wildcats took the first set thanks to four kills and a pair of aces from Claire Leak, including the game winning kill. Laura Leigh Hughes ended the first with a block and a pair of kills. Elyse Story, Madison Porterfield and Sarah Martindale each contributed a pair of kills.

Walnut kept up their attacking style in the 2nd set, falling behind early but keeping the pressure on the net to pull ahead. After Ingomar tied the game at 20 on a Katie Beth Hall ace, Leak stopped the Lady Falcons run with a kill then assumed the serve and rattled off four points including the game winning ace.

The third set saw more stellar play from the Lady Cats, including bench play with Mabry Jackson coming in to get three straight aces as Walnut put the game away.

Sarah Martindale put an end to the match with a kill to claim the victory.

The Lady Wildcats have a tough test against the Hickory Flat Lady Rebels on Tuesday before taking on Potts Camp in a district match. Walnut then faces off Mantachie in a pair of contests that could decide the playoff picture in 1-2A.
